AW Jenkinson Transport Ltd operate a large fleet of modern vehicles with 15 depots located throughout the UK.

    Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence with LGV C+E (class1)
  • Minimum 1yr C+E driving experience
  • Maximum of 6 penalty points
  • Valid DCPC & digital tachograph
  • Sound geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Experience of bulk haulage preferred but not essential

    LGV Mechanic - Lockerbie Yard

    A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd has a vacancy for an experienced and qualified LGV Mechanic to work at our Lockerbie site, repairing and maintaining LGV units and a varied range of trailers including walking floors, timber cranes, tippers, and curtain sided trailers.

    The ideal applicant will have experience of maintaining LGV’s taking into account Health and Safety requirements whilst making the best use of time and resources.

    Hours of work are variable but worked during dayshift, Monday to Friday inclusive, with alternate Saturdays. However, depending on workload, there may be a requirement to work additional hours.

    Ideally you will come from a time served LGV background having attained appropriate City & Guilds, NVQ or B/TEC qualifications. More importantly you will have experience of working in a Heavy Goods Vehicle workshop.

    The Role:

  • Carry out routine inspections, maintenance, MOT Preparation and repairs on all makes of vehicles and trailers to VOSA standard.
  • Carry out a wide range of defect repairs.
  • Perform minor and major repairs on lorries and trailers.
  • Carry out fault diagnostic, troubleshooting and rectification using the manufacturers computer systems.
  • Complete job cards and service sheets in a timely manner.
  • Repair and refurbish company trailers.
  • LGV Licence desired however not essential.
  • Good housekeeping routines to meet H&S requirements.

    LGV Weekend Mechanic - Lockerbie & Penrith

    A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd has a vacancy for an experienced and qualified LGV Mechanic to work at our Lockerbie and Penrith depots, repairing and maintaining LGV units and trailers.

    The Role:

    Trainee Transport Planner

    Company Background

    Formed in the mid-1960s, the A.W. Jenkinson group of companies has experienced year on year growth to the extent that it now handles over 3 million tonnes of roundwood, chips, sawdust, bark, green waste and other timber co-products across the UK annually. Services link virgin timber products and recycled materials with the demands of paper and board manufacturers, energy generation, agriculture, horticulture and amenity markets.

    The growth of the companies has always been supported by a large in-house haulage and logistics operation. The logistics operation is supported by a highly experienced team of drivers, planners and transport managers and a large, modern fleet of more than 650 vehicles covering the entire UK and Northern Europe.

    Every single vehicle movement each day is planned and controlled by A.W. Jenkinson’s own highly experienced traffic team. In addition to our logistics operation, we operate a wide range of other units that meet a variety of specialist requirements.

    Apprenticeship Opportunity

    We are now looking for a Trainee Transport Planner to join our growing Timber team based out of our Lockerbie transport office.

    The aim of this apprenticeship is to help you learn and develop a range of transferable skills and potential in an exciting and fast-moving environment. You will be supported by a friendly team and experienced mentors who will invest time and effort in helping you make the most out of this opportunity. You will be responsible for succeeding at work and at college, in an environment that will be challenging but also one that will enable you to enjoy your learning experience.

    About the role

    This apprenticeship programme is designed to develop you over two years to become a respected and successful Transport Planner. You will obtain a nationally recognised apprenticeship as a Level 3 Transport Supervisor.

    During your apprenticeship you will support the Traffic Team, in an efficient and confidential way, and will learn to:

  • Manage collections and deliveries taking into account route planning, reducing empty loads, and cost;
  • Manage drivers and deal with day to day issues including drivers hours and health & safety;
  • Liaise with customers and drivers to provide high quality communication;
  • Understand customer contracts, rules, penalties etc;
  • Update computer systems with account information, access and egress issues, hold-ups, damage etc
  • What you need to apply

    You will have a minimum of 4 GCSE qualifications at standard grade C/grade 5 or above, including in Maths, and English. You will also need to be competent on Word,

    including having some Excel knowledge, as well as have some interest in working in a transport and logistics environment.

    You will be a driven, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with a positive and can-do attitude, happy to work as part of a team and willing to learn and develop.

    The key to success for this apprenticeship is to have the ability to balance time between studies and work to ensure success in both.
