Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence with LGV C+E (class1)
  • Minimum 1yr C+E driving experience
  • Maximum of 6 penalty points
  • Valid DCPC & digital tachograph
  • Sound geographical knowledge of the UK
  • Experience of bulk haulage preferred but not essential

LGV Mechanic / Fitter - Penrith

A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd has a vacancy for an experienced and qualified LGV Mechanic/Fitter to work at our Gilwilly site, repairing and maintaining LGV units and a varied range of trailers including walking floors, timber cranes, tippers, and curtain sided trailers.

The ideal applicant will have experience of maintaining LGV’s taking into account Health and Safety requirements whilst making the best use of time and resources.

Hours of work are variable but worked during dayshift, Monday to Friday inclusive, with alternate Saturdays. However, depending on workload, there may be a requirement to work additional hours.

Ideally you will come from a time served LGV background having attained appropriate City & Guilds, NVQ or B/TEC qualifications. More importantly you will have experience of working in a Heavy Goods Vehicle workshop.

The Role:

  • Carry out routine inspections, maintenance, MOT Preparation and repairs on all makes of vehicles and trailers to VOSA standard.
  • Carry out a wide range of defect repairs.
  • Perform minor and major repairs on lorries and trailers.
  • Carry out fault diagnostic, troubleshooting and rectification using the manufacturers computer systems.
  • Complete job cards and service sheets in a timely manner.
  • Repair and refurbish company trailers.
  • LGV Licence desired however not essential.
  • Good housekeeping routines to meet H&S requirements.

Personal Qualities:

Apprentice Transport Planner

Company Background

Formed in the mid-1960s, the A.W. Jenkinson group of companies has experienced year on year growth to the extent that it now handles over 3 million tonnes of roundwood, chips, sawdust, bark, green waste and other timber co-products across the UK annually. Apprenticeship Opportunity

We are now looking for a Trainee Transport Planner to join our growing team. We need a trainee to join our team in Chippenham.

The aim of this apprenticeship is to help you learn and develop a range of transferable skills and potential in an exciting and fast-moving environment. You will be supported by a friendly team and experienced mentors who will invest time and effort in helping you make the most out of this opportunity. You will be responsible for succeeding at work and at college, in an environment that will be challenging but also one that will enable you to enjoy your learning experience.

About the role

This apprenticeship programme is designed to develop you over two years to become a respected and successful Transport Planner. You will obtain a nationally recognised apprenticeship as a Level 3 Transport Supervisor.

During your apprenticeship you will support the Traffic Team, in an efficient and confidential way, and will learn to:

  • Manage collections and deliveries taking into account route planning, reducing empty loads, and cost;
  • Manage drivers and deal with day to day issues including drivers hours and health & safety;
  • Liaise with customers and drivers to provide high quality communication;
  • Understand customer contracts, rules, penalties etc;
  • Update computer systems with account information, access and egress issues, hold-ups, damage etc

What you need to apply

You will have a minimum of 4 GCSE or National 5 qualifications at standard grade C/grade 5 or above, including in Maths, and English. You will also need to be competent on Microsoft Word, including having some Excel knowledge, as well as have a real interest in working in a transport and logistics environment.

You will be a driven, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with a positive and can-do attitude, happy to work as part of a team and willing to learn and develop.

The key to success for this apprenticeship is to have the ability to balance time between studies and work to ensure success in both.

Senior Health & Safety Supervisor

A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd requires an experienced Senior Health & Safety Supervisor to work as part of our Health, Safety and Training Team. The business operates in excess of 800 LGVs with maintenance workshops over four separate sites and several depots around the UK.

 

The position will involve maintaining a high standard of health and safety to reduce the frequency and risk of workplace incidents and injuries, and work-related ill-health. It will also include carrying out regular checks of equipment, workplaces, sites and personnel through inspections and audits to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and standards 

 

Duties include but not limited to:

  • develop, maintain, communicate and review  risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments, etc. for all employees at transport depots and maintenance sites;
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, and maintain accident statistics including root cause analysis.  
  • promote incident, accident and near miss reporting
  • ensure safe working procedures are in place, communicated and adhered to;
  • carry out workplace inspections, audits and site  safety walk throughs;
  • carry out random drug and alcohol testing;
  • identifying and managing H&S training requirements and developing internal training.

 

The successful candidate will have a NEBOSH qualification or equivalent with at least five years experience as a senior member of a busy H&S department. Sound knowledge and experience of identifying risk and providing solutions to mitigate such risk, including thorough auditing of the workplace, sites and internal processes are key. They will also be confident liaising with Senior Managers and colleagues and be able to manage your own time effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion are essential. A strong knowledge and understanding of the transport industry, including DVSA regulations will be ideal, but not essential. As this position will involve travel, a full driving licence is essential as is a flexible approach to working hours (early starts may be required).

LGV Shunter Driver

A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd is looking for an experienced LGV Shunter Driver to work out of our Lockerbie Site. 

The position involves transporting trailers between Lockerbie and various local sites for maintenance, testing and repairs. 

The successful candidate will have a valid LGV Licence and driver CPC hours as well as a working understanding of Drivers Hours and Tachograph Legislation. 

Hours of work are negotiable and worked between Monday and Friday.
