LGV C+E (Class1) Tramper Drivers - Bulk Haulage

A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd operate a large fleet of modern vehicles with 17 depots located throughout the UK.

Due to continued growth, we are now recruiting additional class one tramper drivers to join our team with vacancies available throughout the UK.

This role involves working away from home Monday to Friday with the occassional requirement for working on a Saturday morning, delivering bulk product nationwide.

Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence with LGV C+E (class1)
  • Minimum 1yr C+E driving experience
  • Maximum of 6 penalty points
  • Valid DCPC & digital tachograph
  • Sound geographical knowledge and understanding of EU drivers hours rules
  • Experience of bulk haulage preferred

Apprentice Transport Planner - Penrith

Apprenticeship Opportunity

We are now looking for Trainee Transport Planners to join our growing team. We need trainees to join our team based in Penrith from September 2025. The aim of this apprenticeship is to help you learn and develop a range of transferable skills and potential in an exciting and fast-moving environment. You will be supported by a friendly team and experienced mentors who will invest time and effort in helping you make the most out of this opportunity. You will be responsible for succeeding at work and at college, in an environment that will be challenging but also one that will enable you to enjoy your learning experience.

About the role

This apprenticeship programme is designed to develop you over 12-18 months to become a respected and successful Transport Planner. You will obtain a nationally recognised apprenticeship as a Level 2 Traffic Operator. During your apprenticeship you will support the Traffic Team, in an efficient and confidential way, and will learn to:

  • Excellent annual earnings & benefits package.
  • Manage drivers and deal with day-to-day issues including drivers hours and health & safety
  • Liaise with customers and drivers to provide high quality communication
  • Understand customer contracts, rules, penalties etc.
  • Update computer systems with account information, access and egress issues, hold-ups, damage etc.

About the role

You will have a minimum of 4 National 5s/GCSE qualifications at standard grade C/grade 5 or above, including in Maths, and English. You will also need to be competent on Word, including having some Excel knowledge, as well as have some interest in working in a transport and logistics environment. You will be a driven, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with a positive and can-do attitude, happy to work as part of a team and willing to learn and develop.

What you need to succeed

The key to success for this apprenticeship is to have the ability to balance time between studies and work to ensure success in both. Forward Thinking - Take personal ownership for effectively analysing problems and creating solutions with an emphasis on continuous improvement. Teamwork - Develop and maintain sound working relationships between all departments to maximise the service we provide our customers. Communication - Demonstrate high standards of verbal and written communication.

Transport Planners - Penrith - Days & Nights

We are looking for experienced Transport Planners to work from our Penrith Office. There are both day and night shift positions available.

The positions will be planning either bulk or palletised trailers; therefore, experience in planning either of these types of work previously is essential to the role.

The positions involve:

  • Managing collections and deliveries, route planning, minimising empty loads and costs.
  • Managing drivers and dealing with day-to-day issues, including drivers’ hours and health & safety.
  • Liaising with customers and drivers, providing high-quality communication.
  • Controlling vehicles and drivers over 7 days – i.e., being available to assist drivers by telephone.
    The successful candidates will have a good understanding of drivers’ hours and tachograph rules and experience in route planning with excellent navigation skills.

Hours of work:

  • Dayshift hours of work are 7:30am-6:00pm, Monday to Friday inclusive.
  • Nightshift hours of work are 10:00pm-6:00m, Monday to Friday inclusive.

Apprentice IT Support

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ICT Apprentice to join our dynamic I.T. team based out of our Head Office in Clifton, Penrith. The role will support multiple sites throughout the UK.

The position involves:

  • Build & setup of new computers
  • Install computers across multiple sites
  • CCTV maintenance/installs
  • Software & Hardware support (Computers / Printers / Phones / MDM etc)
  • Fault finding

The successful candidate will have a professional manner, be able to show a high degree of accuracy in their work, have good communication skills, and basic knowledge of Windows and the Microsoft Office suite of programs. The candidate will be required to work through and successfully complete an I.T Apprenticeship programme, which will last 18 months, therefore, the successful candidate will need to be able to get themselves to and from our office in Clifton each day.

The successful candidate must have a minimum of 4 National 5s/GCSE qualifications at standard grade C/grade 4 or above, including in Maths and English, to enroll on the apprenticeship.

Apprentice Machine Operative

A.W. Jenkinson Forest Products is now looking for Trainee Machine Operatives to join our growing team. We need trainees to join our production sites in Clifton and Lockerbie starting in August/September 2025. 

The aim of this apprenticeship is to help you learn and develop a range of transferable skills and potential in a demanding and fast-moving environment. You will be supported by a friendly team and experienced mentors who will invest time and effort in helping you make the most out of this opportunity. You will be responsible for succeeding at work and in formal training, in an environment that will be challenging but also one that will enable you to enjoy your learning experience. 

This apprenticeship programme is designed to develop you over 18 months to become a respected and successful Machine Operative. You will obtain a nationally recognised apprenticeship as a Level 2 Material Processing Plant Operator

During your apprenticeship, you will work with experienced site staff in an efficient and safe way, and will learn to: 

  • Operate and carry out essential maintenance on our various fixed production lines across the site;
  • Operate Forklift Trucks in a safe manner;
  • Understand how to work safely, managing your time effectively.

Apprentice Fabricator

A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd has opportunities for an Apprentice Fabricator to work out of our Penrith Transport site. 

The aim of this apprenticeship is to help you learn and develop a range of transferable skills and potential in a demanding and fast-moving environment. You will be supported by a friendly team and experienced mentors who will invest time and effort in helping you make the most out of this opportunity. You will be responsible for succeeding at work and in formal training, in an environment that will be challenging but also one that will enable you to enjoy your learning experience. 

The ideal applicants will have an interest in Fabrication and Welding, taking into account Health and Safety requirements, whilst making the best use of time and resources. 

This apprenticeship programme is designed to develop you over 36 months to become a respected and successful Fabricator. You will obtain a nationally recognised apprenticeship as a Level 3 Metal Fabricator.

What you need to succeed 

You must have a minimum of 4 National 5s/GCSE qualifications at standard grade C/grade 4 or above, including in Maths and English, to enrol on the apprenticeship.

Operations Controller - Runcorn

A.W. Jenkinson Transport Ltd is looking for an experienced Operations Controller to join the team at our Runcorn depot. Joining A.W. Jenkinson Transport Limited will provide you with the opportunity to be part of a growing and modernising business. We are continually investing in our fleet and operations to ensure our team have the tools and systems on hand to best service our customers.


Key responsibilities:
•Recruitment & retention of LGV class 1 drivers
•Pre-employment interviews and driving assessments
•Working in conjunction with the Driver Training Team on driver performance improvement;
•Understanding and dealing with any driver welfare or employment issues;
•Co-ordinating driver absence levels (holidays & sickness)
•Co-ordinating availability of relief drivers and appropriate cover levels
•Keeping abreast of incidents and accidents and liaising with HR.


Requirements:
•LGV C+E (class 1) drivers licence (incl digital tachograph and DCPC card)
•Sound understanding of EU drivers hours rules / tachograph legislation
•Excellent communicator
•Flexible ‘can do’ attitude
•Good IT skills (excel/word/outlook)
•Professional manner


Previous experience in a similar role within a Transport environment would be a strong advantage.
